THIS LETTERBOX HAS BEEN RETIRED

This 240-acre estate was donated to the state of Connecticut in 1935 by a New York surgeon. The pavilion on the summit was his summer residence and is located at an elevation of 1627 feet. You can see Mt. Greylock,  the Green Mountains, and a portion of New Hampshire on a clear day.

From Rt. 44, go south on Rt. 272 for 2.5 miles. Look for gate on the left as the main road veers right. If you park in the kiosk area just after the gate, walk up the road to the summit, approximately 0.6 miles.
Or drive up to the summit and park near the pavilion.

From the eastern door of the pavilion walk to the large rock in the field at 120 degrees. From this rock, walk 160 degrees to the large tree on the other side of the road you just came up. From there look for a multi-trunked tree at 160 degrees. The Dennis Hill Letterbox is hidden between the 9 trunked tree and the 3 trunked tree under some rocks.
